PRE-LOAN COUNSELING FOR STUDENT LOAN BORROWERS
Federal regulations mandate that borrowers complete Pre-Loan Counseling. These sessions are for the STUDENT to complete. If you have a Perkins loan, you must complete the Pre-Loan Counseling for each year that you accept the award.
Pre-Loan Counseling provides borrowers with important information regarding student loans.
Click on the appropriate link below to complete your Pre-Loan Counseling/Entrance interview. If you accepted both a Direct/Stafford Loan and a Perkins Loan, you will need to complete both counseling sessions.
Direct/Stafford Loan recipients, please do not confuse the recommended Financial Awareness Counseling with required Entrance Counseling.

Please refer to your Financial Aid Award Summary on your Student Portal if you are not sure which loans you will be receiving.
Direct Loan entrance counseling videos are available as a supplement to the online pre-loan counseling that is required by federal regulations. These videos do not satisfy the loan counseling requirement on their own, but do provide additional information. RealPlayer is required to view these videos. If you do not have RealPlayer, you can download a free copy or pay for enhanced copy to watch these videos.
If you are transferring to UCSC from another school and have already completed a Pre-Loan Counseling session you may satisfy this requirement by providing Student Business Services with a photocopy of the previous Pre-Loan Counseling form.
