Spring Quarter Updates
Spring Quarter Updates
On March 13, 2020 Chancellor Larive announced that the Spring 2020 quarter will be conducted remotely. Student Business Services (SBS) will be practicing social distancing through May 3, 2020 to support the safety and well-being of our students, faculty, and staff. We will be available by email at sbs@ucsc.edu.
Please see below for current SBS updates in regards to payments, loans, and refunds. Please be aware that normal administrative processing may take longer than usual. Please monitor this page and the UCSC COVID-19 website for any updates.
CARES Funding for UCSC Students
The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act signed into law in early April provides UC Santa Cruz with an allocation of funds to help students during the COVID-19 pandemic. The emergency financial aid grants will be advanced directly to undergraduates and graduate students with the most need for their expenses related to the disruption of campus operations due to the coronavirus, such as food, housing, course materials, technology, health care, and child-care expenses. Students that have been identified for an award will be issued a refund through their UCSC student account.
Direct deposit is the easiest way to receive refunds. If no direct deposit information is setup on a student’s account, or the information is inaccurate, then a check will be mailed to the mailing address listed. If checks are not cashed with 90 days of the check date then funds will be resent to the permanent address listed on the student account. If there are any questions please contact SBS at sbs@ucsc.edu or Financial Aid at finaid@ucsc.edu.
Information on how to update your Direct Deposit or mailing address can be found here:
Payments
All tuition and campus-based fees (excluding housing and dining) will remain unchanged for students enrolled during spring quarter. Tuition and fees are crucial to supporting UC Santa Cruz staff & faculty that continue to support students remotely as well as infrastructure, financial aid and student initiatives.
Course fees are currently being examined on a course by course basis to determine which are still appropriate. Any course fee credits will be placed on the student account. Credits will refund once there are no other outstanding charges. This work is ongoing and if you have questions about course fees, please contact the office offering the course.
Miscellaneous fees are fees for services, and are only charged when the service is used. Units will post credits to students accounts based on whether the service was available and utilized.
The easiest way to pay any outstanding charges is online via our UCSC ebill/ePay site. More Information can be found here:

Housing Credits
Credits are being offered for the Spring 2020 quarter for students who have vacated, or will be vacating their on-campus housing. To be able to receive a full housing/dining credit you must complete a set of actions by April 19, 2020. Any student moving out after that date may be eligible for a pro-rated credit. More Information can be found on Housing website here.
We will be processing credits as adjustments are made to student accounts by the Housing Office. The processing of housing and/or dining credits are ongoing and may not be immediately reflected on your portal. Refunds are processed if there are no other outstanding charges on the account.
Late Fees
We will not be assessing Late Payment Fees, Deferred Payment Plan Late Fees, or Housing Late Fees for March 2020.
Refunds and Mailing Addresses:
If students are to receive a refund, the fastest and safest method is via Direct Deposit. To learn how to sign up for Direct Deposit please visit:
https://sbs.ucsc.edu/refunds/refund_direct_deposit.html
If you are not signed up for direct deposit then a check will be mailed to the mailing address listed on your MyUCSC portal. If you have transitioned off Campus for Spring Quarter, or will be, it is important to review and update your mailing address. If you haven't updated your address, you may experience a delay in receiving your funds. To learn how to update your address please visit:

Financial aid
The Financial Aid and Scholarship Office continues to support students with any financial aid related questions. Due to the high-volume of changes and questions any financial aid adjustments may not immediately reflect on the student account. See Financial Aids update page related to current changes.
Perkins, Dream, & University Loan Repayment:
If you are currently in repayment for a Perkins, Dream, or University Loan you may have un-used entitlements that can help you with loan repayments like Deferment or Forbearance options. For more information please see the FAQ section on our website or email tila_mpn@ucsc.edu.
